ANZAC Day

australian_veteran A break in the Tasman adventure (it says?) To share with you an historic day. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, allied forces of the 1st and 2nd world wars.

On April 25, 1915, under order of Winston Churchill, the ANZAC arrives in Turkey to take control of the Gallipoli peninsula. It will be a massacre for the allied troops. Eight months of battle and more than 10,000 men fell to the ground. On April 25 when one day become commérorative for both Australia and New Zealand.

Date memory is honored in the village of Villers-Bretonneux in Normandy, which was released on the night of April 24 to 25, 1918 by ANZAC troops, marking a turning point in this global conflict.

After the Second World War, April 25 has become a symbol for all the fallen soldiers during the wars. Today is a holiday, considered the most important solemn commemoration of the year. As such, the ANZAC Day is the only day where gambling is allowed, including parts of Two-up , well known to former soldiers. It is also traditional to decorate the graves, or if the memorials of paper poppies. Each state is holding its own ceremony, broadcast on local channels. This Saturday, April 25, at 4:00 am in Melbourne, 40,000 people had joined the Shrine of Remembrance to celebrate the Dawn Service, hours of landing at Gallipoli.

A ceremony is held in Turkey, where a memorial was erected on the beach landing. Many Australians go there on pilgrimage, this year 15,000 people attended the ceremony.

    Hello

Thank you for the explanation of the ANZAC Day celebration ... commémarative terrible periods of war.

And thank you for the resolution of 2-Up (in English in the text), of course, gambling (prohibited in France). Australia has no prohibition ....

I do not remember myself dozing during my course of history ... or the "diggers" as they are known here simply have not been on the agenda ...
I realize here how the two World Wars are important to Australians, particularly concerning their links with France. I wanted to share with you this article of the world (yet still free) on the Australian troops and the pure massacre in this small village 10 km from Lille.
This is the story of 20 year olds who have crossed the world to die in their first battle, for us French.
