Melbourne's Life

French Escapade on the side of Mornington

Mornington Peninsulq The best days are before us, even if we broke a new record last Saturday ... the coldest of days! The end of winter is felt, and the sun shines propels us beyond the 20 °: just enough to plan a few outings in the vicinity of Melbourne. The device output and the blog lives again! Here is the schedule for the month of September ...

A 1 hour drive you can go get lost in the Dandenongs, ( see map ) hiking trails through the forests, but it's for a barbecue that we went. We must begin to Australian fashion ...

However, is along the coast, to go on the side of Mornington Peninsula ( see map ), we have included a faster athlete ... We? Yes small group of French met by chance at a job fair. And yes it was a time when we were looking all the work, and with a colorful cover of a French university, it is recognizable!

Place for hiking along the beach and the cliffs to the ocean side, tumultuous and rocky, or the peaceful calm of Port Phillip Bay and its blue color at sunset. On the side of Nepean Point is a strong (that is quite rare here!) Abandoned after the Second World War. More history is on the beach that we discover the remains of the banks that welcomed immigrants and their animals in the 19th century ... As an air of Ellis Island ... A significant change of scene, even if 60kms from the city, we feels it forever. Here to join the authentic Australian bush, drive for 3 hours ... everything is a matter of scale. But the landscape is well worth a visit ...

A day in Williamstown

Williamstown One thing that makes the charm of Sydney, it is the taxi-boat! Cross the Victoria Harbour to join the business district or go to a park to another immediately gives an air of holiday every day.

Melbourne has its enthusiasts rowing course, which shares the Yarra River with the City Cruise Boats. Harbour Point here. However, for a little getaway for the day, you can hop a ferry to bort you walk for 30 minutes in the city before joining the sea to take you to Williamstown.

As jumping two, so it is with Nicole I went to see this other side of the city of a thousand faces! In 1837 Williamstown was the competitor of Melbourne: a prosperous city on the outskirts of Hobson Bay, ideally located for commerce. Government services settled there some time, until Melbourne broaden the Yarra River, and begins its heyday. Once abandoned, Williamstown is again at the end of the twentieth century a weekend destination. 30 minutes from the city, is fun to browse the Costal Heritage Park between the historic center to the beach.

MOH 2009

Royal Exhibition Building Melbourne Open House 2009: it was this weekend in the State of Design Festival ! A new opportunity to explore the CBD which I have not been around. A sort of open house on thirty monuments, hotels or rooms normally closed to the public, and for the occasion lets photographers ...

So I joined a group of enthusiasts image via meetup (discovered last week - it's great!), all levels, all backgrounds, but with the same pleasure to capture the image that will fly ... or not! The program of the day we started by The Denmark House Ikea style that gave me a good mind to go jump in Scandinavia. The Donkey Wheel House is simply abandoned, then it is to the State Library and the University that we went, making a stop at the Intercontinental Rialto impressive. I ended my day with a visit to the Royal Exhibition Building (yes it is against the dome above, and not a psychedelic pattern ...) and Design: Made: Trade forum where insights of Alex Earl , the photocurator and mode of stickypic would have given much want to redo the decor!

That's the weekend! And the week? It began with a sunny Monday, 18 °, perfect for taking the time to bone up the Information Technology Infrastructure Library on the terrace ... and yes tomorrow is the big day, or rather the first in Mercer , where I joined the team Windows infrastructure for a month of volunteering: it remains for me to convert the try!

Melbourne CBD

Melbourne Golden Mile

Three letters to Central Business District and is the historic heart of Melbourne, now the business district, where Victorian architecture is reflected in the glass towers. Dockland is east of the CBD, along the waterfront, while the crowd swarming in Flinders Street, Federation Square and Southbank, places of all the festivities and cultural events, close to the Art Centre and the National Gallery of Victoria .

Do not they say a picture is worth two paragraphs? So here's a black and white series to illustrate this. Welcome to Melbourne, Victoria.

Melbourne - Docklands

Dockland Wharf Welcome to Dockland!

It is time to resume the series on the discovery of Melbourne! You a first look was given with Bayside and beaches, walk along the waterfront, let St Kilda and go back to Docklands!

This ultra-modern new district is located east of the CBD, by the Victorian architecture is abandoned in favor of glass towers, sculptures and contemporary tourist walks along the water. You will not find it yet on the cards, the start-up is fresh and still developing. Between offices and apartments, shops and restaurants appear here and there, and it is very likely that the area 5 minutes from central Melbourne soon attract the crowds.

On the occasion of a meeting between photographers, we went on the old docks, where enthusiasts restore old boats, and here the Alma Doepel, a survivor of Hobart, is a sumptuous ship nearly a century! Doomed to destruction, it was just saved. Resumption of sea travel in a few years ...

The docks offer a remarkable panorama of the waterfront, so it's at a festival last weekend, I took my card explorer and my lenses and my foot (who wants to understand ... ). Sound and light, fire organ, fireworks and fish & chips with friends, there are good reasons to survey the night sky to travel the passage of small Mediterranean Croisette.
